West Indies fall 2-0 behind as England edge another thrilling T20 victory
Despite a blistering batting display, the West Indies find themselves staring down an inescapable 2-0 deficit in the three-match T20 International series against England after a hard-fought loss at the County Ground in Bristol on Sunday.
Inserted to bat, the Windies staged an explosive late surge, smashing 75 runs off the final four overs to post a competitive total of 196 for 7. Their innings was punctuated by a staggering 15 sixes, including a remarkable 31-run over off spinner Adil Rashid — the second-most expensive over in England’s T20 history.
Opener Johnson Charles led the charge with a gritty 47 from 39 balls, while captain Shai Hope anchored the innings with a stylish 49 off 38 deliveries. All-rounders Rovman Powell and Jason Holder provided crucial late impetus, scoring quickfire 34 from 15 balls and an unbeaten 29 from just 9 balls respectively.
England’s bowling attack was led by Luke Wood, who claimed 2 for 25, with Brydon Carse, Jacob Bethell, and Rashid chipping in with a wicket apiece.
In response, England’s experienced Jos Buttler, who scored 96 in the series opener, continued his fine form, smashing 47 from 36 balls as England cruised to 199 for 6 in 18.3 overs. The pick of the Windies bowlers was Alzarri Joseph with 2 for 45, supported by Jason Holder, Akeal Hosein, Roston Chase, and Romario Shepherd who each picked up a wicket.
With this result, the West Indies remain winless on their current England tour and face a must-win situation in order to avoid a sweep as the teams gear up for the final clash of the series in Southampton on Tuesday.
