West Indies cricketers in bouyant mood after victory over USA in Super 8 stage of ICC Men’s T20 World Cup
The West Indies are cricketers are making the short trip from Barbados to Antigua ahead of Sunday’s decisive Super Eight encounter against South Africa at the Sir Viv Richards Stadium.
It comes after they comprehensively thrashed fellow co-hosts the United States by 9 wickets with 55 balls to spare on Friday to rekindled their hopes of winning the ICC T20 Men’s Cricket World Cup on home soil.
The Americans, inserted to bat, were dismissed for 128 with spinner Roston Chase (3-19) and Andre Russell (3-31) leading the West Indian bowling while Alzarri Joseph supported with 2 for 31.
In response the Windies, chasing a victory target of 129, raced to 130 for 1 in just 10.5 overs to significantly boost their net run rate ahead of England and group leaders South Africa.
Opener Shai Hope was the stand-out batsman, hitting an unbeaten 82 off just 39 balls – decorated by 4 fours and 8 sixes – while sharing in an unbroken second wicket partnership of 63 with Nicholas Pooran who made 27 not out.
Chase, meanwhile was later was named Player of the Match for his career-best effort.
West Indies with the one-sided result moved to second in Group 2 above England on net run rate with both teams on 2 points. The Men in Maroon will advance to the semifinals with victory against South Africa who lead the table on maximum 4 points.
