West Indies beat Bangladesh by 5 wickets to take a one-nil lead in 3 match ODI series
The West Indies are today still in a celebratory mood, having overcome a slow start to beat Bangladesh by 5 wickets to take a one-nil lead in the three-match one day international series.
The result of Sunday’s first match at Warner Park in St. Kitts also saw the ‘Windies snapping an 11-match losing streak to their opponents.
Sherfane Rutherford was the catalyst, hitting a whirlwind 113 off 80 balls for his maiden ODI century, as the ‘Windies chasing a target of 295, made 295 for 5 in 47.4 overs.
This after earlier slumping to 94 for 3 after 8.1 overs and at one point needing 161 off 114 deliveries.
Also contributing heavily was captain Shai Hope who made a patient 86 from 88 balls while sharing in a 99-run 4th wicket partnership with Rutherford.
Justin Greaves 41 not out was the third best Windies batsman.
Rarlier the visitors electing to bat made a competitive 294 for 6, with captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz 74, tanzid hasan 60 and Mahmudullah who slammed an unbeaten 50, getting most runs against Romario Shepherd 3 for 30 and Alzarri Joseph 2 for 67.
With his latest knock, Rutherford who was named man of the match, also became the fourth West Indies batsman after Gordon Greenidge, Chris Gayle and Shai Hope to record at least 5 consecutive 50-plus scores in One Day International cricket.
Final scores: Bangladesh 294 for 6, West Indies 295 for 5.
