Weather conditions remain unstable, rainfall expected over northern eastern parishes – Met Service

Though Hurricane Melissa has moved away from the island, weather conditions remain unstable with rainfall expected, especially across north central and northeastern parishes.

Principal Director of the Meteorological Service, Evan Thompson made the disclosure during a special briefing at Jamaica House this morning.

It is the first such briefing since the Category 5 hurricane ravaged Jamaica.

Hurricane Melissa is the strongest system to ever hit the country since records began.

Mr. Thompson explained that Jamaica could experience showers and strong gusty winds, even as Hurricane Melissa makes it way over Cuba.

He also noted that flash flooding is still likely.

Mr. Thompson added that the Met Service will be conducting an assessment of Hurricane Melissa’s impact on the country.
