Wanted man fatally shot by police during alleged confrontation in Kingston

A man was fatally shot by police during an alleged confrontation on Jacques Road, Mountain View, Kingston this morning.

The deceased has been identified as 31-year-old Devar Hodges, also known as “Skedo” or “Black Head,” of Trison District, St. Ann, and Jacques Road.

Hodges was wanted in the St. Ann Police Division for wounding with intent and was recently featured on the Jamaica Constabulary Force’s Wanted Wednesdays campaign.

Reports indicate that at approximately 5:30 A.M., officers from the Kingston Eastern Division conducted an intelligence-led operation on Jacques ((Jakes)) Road.

Officers entered a premises, where Hodges allegedly pointed a firearm at them.

The police took evasive action, which resulted in Hodges being shot.

A black 9mm pistol, along with one magazine and seven live 9mm rounds were reportedly recovered from Hodges.

He was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) was notified.
