Transport minister, Daryl Vaz is again urging road users to exercise greater caution and responsibility when traversing the roads.

The renewed call follows a fiery motor vehicle crash along the Coopers Pen main road in Trelawny, yesterday which claimed two lives.

According to lawmen, a motor vehicle was being driven along the Coopers Pen main road when the driver lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a tree.

It then burst into flames killing the two occupants.

Since the start of the year three persons have lost their lives from two collisions.

According to Mr Vaz, to record three road fatalities within the first four days of the year is deeply troubling and said this is not the way to start 2026.

He said the devastating crash in Trelawny is a sobering reminder of how quickly lives can be lost, when road rules are ignored or caution is abandoned.

He stressed that the road safety call is not just about one driver or one vehicle, but a wake-up call to every operator, motorist, and pedestrian.

The Transport Minister noted that the severity of the crash underscores the urgent need for heightened vigilance and responsible behaviour on the nation’s roads.

He said the island must record fewer than the 374 fatalities which were reported last year.
