Vaz says government will continue to invest in use of technology to prevent road crashes involving animals
Transport Minister Daryl Vaz says the government will continue to invest in and promote the use of technology in agriculture to prevent road crashes involving animals.
Mr. Vaz is also calling on farmers to take the necessary measures to secure their livestock.
This follows a collision, in New Bowens, Clarendon, last Tuesday involving stray cattle, which claimed the life of 21-one year old Valentine Bailey.
Mr. Vaz says the accident highlights the significant dangers posed by unsecured animals on the nation’s roadways.
In expressing his condolences to Bailey’s family, the minister states that by securing livestock, this will reduce the risk of accidents that endanger human lives.
He says he will discuss with Agriculture Minister Floyd Green ways to prevent these accidents.
Mr. Vaz states that while road safety is a shared responsibility among drivers, pedestrians, and various stakeholders, farmers have a pivotal role to play in ensuring the safety of the nation’s highways and byways.
He reiterates that allowing livestock to roam unsupervised or unsecured poses serious hazards to motorists and pedestrians.
The minister urged farmers to explore available resources and work with local authorities to ensure that their animals are secured.
