Vaz: No decision yet on recommendations relating to Petrojam

Energy Minister Daryl Vaz has indicated that no decision has yet been made regarding the implementation of the Zacca committee recommendations for Petrojam.

Mr. Vaz was responding to questions from his opposition counterpart Phillip Paulwell in the lower house today.

Mr. Paulwell expressed concern that a key recommendation by the Chris Zacca led Petrojam review committee in 2019 was for the government to exit participating in refinery operations.

In other words, the committee suggested that privatisation would be the best option for Petrojam to operate more efficiently.

Mr. Vaz explained that Cabinet is still reviewing the matter.

The minister also outlined that despite the lack of a decision on the Zacca committee recommendations, steps have been taken to improve operational efficiency at Petrojam.

He added that discussions are taking place in relation to unsolicited proposals.
