Vaz asks JPS to give him detailed restoration schedule, for submission to Cabinet next Monday
Energy Minister Daryl Vaz has asked the Jamaica Public Service company to provide him with a detailed schedule on post Hurricane Beryl restoration efforts.
This information will be taken to Cabinet next Monday and also be used to update the nation on the restoration progress.
Vaz led a team from the ministry on a tour of the JPS control centre yesterday.
The tour allowed the ministry team to assess the impact of the storm on the country’s energy infrastructure.
During the tour, Vaz inspected various facilities, with respect to distribution networks and the nerve centre of the JPS.
The energy minister sought to get a full status report on the state of the island-wide assessment and recovery efforts.
He emphasized to the JPS team the importance of providing a comprehensive report on the assessment of damage and restoration efforts across the island.
Vaz said the requested detailed schedule should include information on not only parishes, but also on specific communities that are still without power.
The minister also asked the JPS to submit an up to date and effective communications plan, to ensure that clear, accurate information is shared with the public.
Vaz said he instructed the JPS to also provide the details of additional assistance that it has engaged beyond its normal contractors.
This as the minister said he was advised of the engagement of contractors who work with other private entities, to bolster the technical support to speed up the restoration time.
