UWI to increase reliance on technology to keep institution safe.
The University of the West Indies, Mona, says it is planning to increase its reliance on technology to keep the institution safe.
Campus Registrar, Dr. Donovan Stanberry indicated this in an interview with IRIE FM News.
He was addressing reports of two robbery attempts at the campus recently.
The incidents resulted in increased discussions about safety and security among students and parents, especially on social media.
A meeting was held on Wednesday between the institution and the executive of the Guild of Students, where several measures to bolster safety were explored.
Dr. Stanberry told Irie FM news that while efforts are ongoing to ensure the safety of all stakeholders, it is too expensive to hire the number of security guards needed to protect the premises effectively.
He said as a result, more reliance will be placed on technology in the future.
