UWI consultant urges government to remedy remuneration concerns at the university
Consultant to the Centre for Leadership and Governance at the University of the West Indies (UWI), Professor Trevor Monroe, has called on the government to remedy remuneration concerns at the university.
He made the plea at a UWI roundtable discussion today.
His calls come amid a recent protest by lecturers at the institution for an increase in wages.
While delivering the keynote address at today’s discussion Professor Munroe stressed the importance of the university to the society.
He said there is a need for the government to demonstrate the UWI’s value to the society.
He said the government must consider the negative impacts of the remuneration issues for the overall continuation of the institution.
Professor Monroesaid the situation concerning the wages of the staff at the UWI needs to be rectified immediately.
