UWI assures it has policies in place to deal with altercations on dormitory halls, amidst increase in reported incidents, in recent times
The University of the West Indies (UWI) has sought to assure that it has policies and procedures in place to deal with altercations involving students on dormitory halls.
Registrar Dr. Donovan Stanberry said the UWI has seen an increase in reported incidents in recent times.
These incidents include the recent alleged torturing of a female student by a male student on one of the halls of residence.
Dr. Stanberry said the incidents on halls are a reflection of what happens in society generally, including at other educational institutions.
Speaking on the alleged torture case, Dr. Stanberry said the UWI’s disciplinary mechanism has been activated and due process is being followed.
He said the UWI continues to provide support to victims as well as conflict resolution intervention.
