Usain Bolt’s Tracks & Records conducting damage assessment following fire

The management of Usain Bolt’s Tracks and Records restaurant in Montego Bay, St. James has stated that it will stabilise operations, where feasible, in order to continue supporting Hurricane Melissa relief efforts.

This after fire gutted the facility early this morning.

In a statement, it said the site has been without electricity since the passage of Hurricane Melissa

However, limited operations were continued, using generator power to support World Central Kitchen, which has been utilizing the facilities to prepare meals daily for storm-affected communities.

It said the restaurant had not yet reopened to the public, as several members of the team are still managing the impacts of the hurricane.

At approximately 1:47 a.m., members of the meal preparation team arrived on-site and discovered the fire.

The Jamaica Fire Brigade was contacted immediately.

Upon the arrival of firefighters, the upper level of the building was already engulfed.

The fire has since been fully contained.

Management is conducting a comprehensive damage assessment, while the Jamaica Fire Brigade continues its formal investigation into the cause of the incident.

It said the focus at this time is on ensuring safety, stabilizing operations where feasible, particularly in support of World Central Kitchen’s meal preparation efforts and continuing to contribute to the wider recovery efforts across the country.

Meantime, Acting Superintendent for the St. James fire department O’Neil Kerr urged persons to always exercise caution, due to lack of power, following the hurricane.
