US $400,000 earmarked to purchase parts for JUTC buses ahead of new school year
Transport Minister Daryl Vaz is reporting that over $400,000 US has been earmarked to purchase spare parts for the fleet of the Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC).
Speaking at a post cabinet press briefing this morning (July 5), Mr. Vaz noted that the funding is to prepare for the upcoming school term. He said the spend is aimed at getting the fleet to 310 buses.
Included in that 310 will be the 50 electric and diesel buses which were ordered earlier in the year, which he says are to arrive on the island by Monday at the latest.
Mr. Vaz also noted that the 20 compressed natural gas units which were ordered in May, are to arrive at the end of this year.
