UPDATE: Police identify 5 people killed in Trelawny crash this morning

The police have identified the individuals who died in a motor vehicle crash along the North Coast Highway in Salt Marsh, Trelawny early this morning.

Speaking with IRIE FM News earlier today, Head of the Public Safety and Traffic Enforcement Branch, Dr. Gary Mckenzie confirmed that the deceased include four males and one female.

They have been identified as: 22-year-old Ackem Roberts of Portmore, 42-year-old Dwayne Campbell of Spanish Town, Simone Minott also of Spanish Town, Quanardo Owens of Bridgeport, all located in St. Catherine, and Horace Tulloch whose address has not yet been confirmed.

According to police reports the incident occurred around 2:30 a.m. and involved a white Toyota Hiace bus that was being operated as a public passenger vehicle.

Investigators have cited excessive speeding and driver inattention as possible causes of the crash.

In the meantime, Vice-Chairman of the National Road Safety Council (NRSC), Dr. Lucien Jones is urging Jamaicans to value life more when it comes to road safety.

So far, 194 people have died in road crashes since the start of the year.
