UPDATE: JUTC says it’s not insensitive to challenges being faced by citizens, due to shortage of company’s buses
The Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC) says it is not insensitive to the challenges being faced by citizens, due to a shortage of the company’s buses.
Yesterday (May 18), IRIE FM news reported that several senior citizens in Cumberland, St Catherine, were experiencing long wait times at bus stops due to limited public transportation, which runs through the community.
The seniors called for the JUTC to urgently address the situation and relieve the frustration of commuters.
In response, JUTC’s Communications Manager, Cecil Thoms told IRIE FM news that the company is making every effort to make more buses available to citizens.
Mr Thoms said one such effort is a recent partnership with the HEART Trust/NSTA, where trainees in vehicle maintenance will work with the JUTC maintenance team to repair some of the ageing buses.
He also noted that 50 additional buses purchased by the Government should arrive in the country next month.
