Unnamed West Indies player accused of multiple sexual assault allegations, reports say
An unnamed West Indies men’s cricketer has been accused of multiple counts of sexual assault, sexual harassment, and rape, according to a detailed report published by Kaieteur Sports, a Guyana-based newspaper.
The cricketer, who hails from Guyana and is currently part of the West Indies national team setup, was a member of the squad that famously defeated Australia at the Gabba in Brisbane in January 2024.
Allegations and Victim’s Account
The alleged victim, referred to as Jane Doe in the report to protect her identity, is a 24-year-old woman who claims the incident occurred shortly before the player left Guyana. Jane Doe states that she and the cricketer had agreed to meet on a date with clear boundaries set. However, what began as a casual evening reportedly ended in a traumatic incident near her home in the Providence community.
According to the report, Jane Doe has made multiple attempts to file an official complaint with the Guyana Police, but these efforts have so far been unsuccessful.
Evidence Presented
The newspaper article further reveals that the alleged victim presented photos of injuries she claims were sustained during the incident, along with screenshots of WhatsApp messages. These messages reportedly show the cricketer apologizing for his actions and requesting that the matter be kept private.
Additionally, the cricketer is said to have offered monetary compensation in one exchange, which the alleged victim refused.
Wider Allegations
Kaieteur Sports reports that the unnamed player has been accused by at least 11 women of similar misconduct. However, no formal charges have been filed to date.
The newspaper also learned of at least four other incidents, including one prior case that was reported to the police. While a statement was taken in that instance, the matter was never elevated to formal charges and quietly faded from public attention.
Current Status
As of now, the West Indies Cricket Board and Guyana Police have not released official statements regarding the allegations.
This story remains under close watch as further information becomes available.
