Union representing Guardsman workers at U.S. Embassy wants to meet with financial institutions over insurance deductions from guards’ salaries
Attempts are being made by a union representing Guardsman workers at the United States embassy in Kingston to meet with financial institutions regarding insurance deductions from the guards’ salaries.
The Union of Clerical Administrative and Supervisory Employees (U-CASE) reported that workers became concerned following claims that money deducted from their salaries for insurance had not been paid over, or were paid late to the respective financial institutions.
U-CASE President Vincent Morrison said the issue negatively affected the workers’ credit rating.
Morrison said Guardsman reported that the funds were paid over, and that in some cases, technical challenges resulted in the payment not being reflected on the workers’ accounts.
The union leader wants to meet with the financial institutions to get further clarity on the matter.
Morrison argued that the workers should not be penalised for late or non-payments.
He said a partial resolution was reached during a meeting with Guardsman yesterday.
