Chairman of the Jamaica Umbrella Group of Churches (JUGC) Bishop Michael Smith says there seems to be a disregard for life in the Jamaican society.

His statement follows the murder of two pastors in St. Catherine recently.

The latest incident took place on Saturday along Mitchell Close, where 77-year-old Bishop Clinton Smith was gunned down.

Reports are that at about 7:35 P.M., Smith was at home when he was summoned by a visitor.

Moments later, residents heard loud explosions and alerted the police.

On their arrival, Smith was found suffering from gunshot wounds.

He died at the hospital.

Meantime on January 18, 41-year-old Pastor Michael Spencer was gunned down in Old Harbour.

27-year-old construction worker Lamar Myers, otherwise called ‘Duppy Maker’ has been charged in relation to that incident.

Speaking with IRIE FM News, JUGC President Bishop Smith said it seems the value of life has been reduced significantly.

He said the situation is a cause for concern.

He said a holistic societal approach is needed to tackle the issue.
