Uefa opens investigation after Reggae Girl Khadija Shaw hit by object

European football’s governing body UEFA has opened an investigation after Reggae Girlz captain striker Khadija Shaw was hit by an object during Manchester City’s 2-1 win against against Hammarby IF in the Women’s Champions League on Thursday.

The incident took place during the first half in Stockholm after Shaw opened the scoring. The 27-year-old celebrated in front of home fans and replays show Shaw flinch at what appeared to be an object thrown onto the pitch.

Shaw was led away by her City team-mates before receiving a yellow card from referee Silvia Gasperotti.

“Proceedings have been opened against Hammarby IF for throwing of objects (Article 16(2)(b) of the Disciplinary Regulations),” Uefa said in a statement.

It added: “Manchester City player Khadija Shaw received a yellow card following her goal presentation for unsporting conduct.”

Manchester City, meanwhile, ran out winners with Shaw scoring either side of half-time to secure their place in the quarter-finals with two group games still to play.

The striker, now with 12 goals in 13 games in all competitions, was on Thursday was named to the Jamaica national team for the upcoming friendly internationals against South Africa on November 29 and December 2 in Montego Bay.
