UCASE welcomes announcement that Labour Ministry building will be named after former PM Portia Simpson-Miller
At least one trade union has welcomed the announcement that the main building at the ministry of Labour and Social Security along North Street in Kingston will be named the Portia Simpson Miller building.
The announcement was made in Parliament by Culture Minister Olivia Grange while she outlined activities for this year’s celebration of Workers Week and Labour Day.
The government building is being named in honour of the former Prime Minister, in recognition of modern day leaders who contributed to the welfare and upliftment of the workers of Jamaica.
The Union of Clerical and Administrative Employees (UCASE) said this is a fitting tribute for Mrs. Simpson Miller.
UCASE President Vincent Morrison suggested that, in addition to the Labour Ministry building, the Farm Workers Processing Centre, should also bear Mrs. Simpson Miller’s name.
