U20 Reggae Boyz face USA in opening game at Concacaf U-20 Championship

Jamaica’s young Reggae Boyz will on Friday begin their quest to secure a place at the 2025 FIFA U-20 World Cup when they bow into action at the Concacaf Men’s U-20 Championship in Mexico.

The biennial tournament which runs from July 19 to August 4 features 12 nations divided in three groups comprising four teams. Matches will be played in the cities of Celaya and Irapuato.

The Jamaicans, led by head coach Jerome Waite, are drawn in Group A alongside defending champions United States, Cuba and Costa Rica.

They open their campaign against the Americans on Friday at 9pm Jamaica time before facing Costa Rica on Monday and Cuba on Thursday.

Group B meanwhile includes Honduras, Dominican Republic, El Salvador and Canada with record thirteen-time winners Mexico drawn alongside Panama, Guatemala and Haiti in Group C.

After single round-robin play, the top two finishers in each group and the two best third-place teams will advance to the quarter-finals. The four semifinalists qualify to represent Concacaf at the 2025 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Chile.

Adrian  Reid  of  Cavalier  and  Tawayne  Lynch  of  Mount  Pleasant  head  the  local  based  players  in  the  21  member  squad.

The  other  local  based  players  are  Jloyd  Smith and  Christopher  Ainsworth  (Cavalier), Alex  James  and  Nashordo Gibbs  (Real  Mona), Javin  Williams  (Reno), Shadeko Wizzard and  Nahshon Bolt  (Arnett  Gardens), Dunstin Cohen (Vere  United), Brian  Burkett (Dunbeholden), Orane Watson (Chapelton  Maroons)  and  Rashaun Small (Portmore United).

The overseas based players are Joshua Grant, Nyle Waugh, Avery Grange, Ashton Gordon, Alexander Bicknell, Fabian Reynolds, Makai Welch and Romain Blake.
