Two thanksgiving services to be held for the life of the Hall of Fame boxer Mike Mcullum 

Two thanksgiving services will be held for the life of the legendary Hall of Famer and former WBA Super-Welterweight World Boxing champion Mike Mcullum. 

An insider close to the discussion told IRIE FM sports that the dates are being finalized and one of the services will be held in New York and the other in Jamaica.

It is understood that the government of Jamaica through the Ministry of Sports will be rolling out the details shortly for the send off of Mcaullum. 

Mcullum the Commonwealth Games and Central American and the Caribbean Games Welterweight gold medalist, died on May 31 after being found unresponsive in his car in Las Vegas, according to the Clark County Coroner’s office. 

Known as “the body snatcher,” Mccallum was one of boxing’s most feared punchers during his career that span more than a decade from 1981 to 1997. 

He retired in 1997 with a record of 49 wins -5 losses and 1 draw and then became a successful trainer in Las Vegas.

McCallum represented Jamaica at the 1976 Summer Olympic Games and as a pro, he won his first 32 fights, with 29 coming by way of knockout. 

He became boxing’s first Jamaican-born World Champion in 1984, won world titles at Junior Middleweight, Middleweight and Lightweight, and was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 2003.
