Two St. Ann Councillors call on Municipal Corporation to take control of land matters
At least two St. Ann councillors are calling on the Municipal Corporation to take control of land matters in the parish.
Councillor for the Sturge Town Division, Winston Lawrence and, Councillor for the Lime Hall division Genevor Gordon Bailey raised the issue of idle lands at last Thursday’s Council meeting.
According to Mr. Lawrence, the corporation owns many acres of land in St. Ann, some of which are captured by residents.
He said some of these lands are located in areas ideal to do business, and that the corporation needs to make use of this opportunity to invest in some of these lands.
While echoing Mr. Lawrence’s sentiments, Councillor Gordon Bailey cautioned that the corporation must move carefully in dealing with the matter.
She said there are a number of properties across the parish, where the legitimate owners are not yet decided and the corporation could face lawsuits if these matters are not dealt with properly.
