At least two local transport groups have warned that the growing competition from ride-hailing companies in Jamaica will affect their business.

The matter was raised at a virtual meeting hosted by Transport Operators Development Sustainable Services (TODSS) last evening.

President of the Jamaica Union of Travellers Association (JUTA), Montego Bay Simon Lawrence who was a guest at the meeting complained that persons operating for ride-hailing companies do not face rigorous compliance as local transport groups.

He said the relevant authorities need to intervene to save their livelihoods.

And, President of Maxi Tours Association, Horace Taylor described ride-hailing services as a cancer affecting his members.

While noting that fair competition is good, he suggested that earnings from from ride-hailing companies leave Jamaica affecting the economy.
