Two JDF members detained in probe into missing pistol
The Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) says two members, have been detained and are being questioned in connection with a probe into a missing pistol.
The JDF in a statement today, confirmed that a routine audit of its weapons inventory revealed a missing pistol from its headquarters at Up Park Camp.
The JDF says in accordance with established procedures, all its bases and installations have been confined, pending the outcome of the investigation .
The army is assuring the public that all appropriate security and accountability mechanisms have been activated and that the matter is being treated with the highest level of urgency and seriousness.
Chief of Defence Staff Vice Admiral Antonette Wemyss Gorman says any loss of a military weapon is deeply concerning and completely unacceptable.
She adds that while the JDF continues to gather all the facts, she is reiterating that the army holds itself to the highest standards of accountability and will act decisively where those standards have been breached.
Vice Admiral Wemyss Gorman is pledging to ensure that the matter is thoroughly investigated and addressed, stating that the force remains committed to transparency and public trust.
The JDF statement says the public will be apprised as the situation evolves.
