Two Jamaican relay teams chasing World qualification mark
Two Jamaican relay teams will be chasing the qualification mark this evening, in order to get into the World Athletics Championships set for September 13-21 in Tokyo.
This when they compete at the at the inaugural Barbados Grand Prix which takes place at the Usain Bolt Sports Complex in St Michael’s, Barbados starting at 5:20 Jamaica time with the Men’s Long Jump Final.
Jamaica’s men’s 4×100 meters team featuring: Kadrian Goldson, Adrian Kerr, Bouwahgie Nkrumie, and Odain Mcpherson and the mixed 4×400 meters team which includes Roneisha Mcgregor, Shanakaye Anderson, Jeremy Bembridge, and Bovel Mcpherson are the two teams that will be action this evening.
Jamaica’s men’s sprint relay team is currently in a precarious position, ranked 18th behind Netherlands, Nigeria and Brazil .
However, they need to run faster than the 15th ranked Netherlands at 37.87 seconds or the 16th ranked nigeria at 38.20 seconds in order to have a solid shot of reaching Tokyo.
In addition, the mixed Jamaican team is ranked in the 16th and final qualification spot at 3 minutes 11. 06 seconds, will be hard pressed to improve this time given how close Nigeria sits in 17th at 3 minutes 11.99 seconds .
Meanwhile, teams that didn’t qualify directly from the World Relays can still qualify based on their world ranking within the top 16.
The qualification window for relays closes on August 24.
In the meantime, the former Edwin Allen standout serena cole will be partnered by Jodean Williams, Krystal Sloley and Jonielle Smith in the Women’s 4×100 metres and will use the meet as a warm up, given that jamaica has already qualified for the World Championship in this event by virtue of finishing third at the World Relays in China earlier this year .
