Tufton to challenge magisterial recount in Ginger Ridge Division
Member of Parliament for West Central St. Catherine Dr. Christopher Tufton says results of the magisterial recount for votes cast in the Ginger Ridge Division in the Local Government Election, will be challenged in the Supreme Court.
On February 29, the Electoral Office of Jamaica, EOJ revealed that the Jamaica Labour Party, JLP’s
Jeremiah Edwards got 1010 votes, losing to the People’s National Party, PNP’s Ralston Wilson who secured 1018 votes.
Following a magisterial recount, on Thursday, Mr. Wilson maintained the win with 1, 118 votes, seven more than Mr. Edwards’ 1, 111.
Speaking to reporters on Friday, Dr. Tufton said the matter will be brought to the Supreme Court as he is not confident in the results.
He said there was inconsistency in the acceptance of ballots bearing a tick versus an x.
