Health Minister Dr Christopher Tufton says lands have been identified to construct a hospital for the proposed new parish of Portmore.

Dr. Tufton revealed that the location identified is Bernard Lodge.

Concerns have been expressed by some that Portmore lacks a number of amenities that should accompany parish status.

Dr Tufton told a meeting of the St Catherine Chamber of Commerce that a feasibility study is being undertaken on the hospital.

Earlier this month, the governing Jamaica Labour Party used its majority in the House of Representatives to pass the bill to grant parish status to Portmore.

The opposition People’s National Party did not support the bill and continues to express concern about the manner in which the matter is being handled.
