T&T Finance Minister launch probe into USD payments made to several acts at the One Caribbean Music Festival

Trinidad and Tobago’s Finance Minister, Davendranath Tancoo, has requested an investigation into the foreign exchange payments made to several acts for their performance at the One Caribbean Music Festival.

Speaking with the Trinidad Guardian Minister Tancoo expressed concerns over the monies being mentioned in connection with the festival, especially as the country grapples with ongoing foreign exchange challenges. He said he requested ab investigation from the Ministry of Finance.

The One Caribbean Music Festival scheduled for Saturday May 31 took a dramatic turn when Kartel and several acts, including Sizzla Kalonji, Malie Don, Rvssian and Moliy, pulled out due to contractual issues. The event’s organisers claimed Kartel received $950,000 of his $1.3 million payment before backing out.

Attendees have since demanded refunds after the numerous no shows. The organisers are now working on reimbursing ticket holders and as well as other compensation methods.

In a statement, Kartel apologised to Trinidadian fans and explained that he had urged his manager to give the promoter more time to meet the payment deadlines.

Meanwhile, the Trinidad police is also looking into the matter, particularly since one of the promoters, Odane Anderson, has a pending criminal charge.
