Troy Ellis sentenced to 30 years in prison for the murder of 9-yr-old Taliyah Thompson in St. Ann, last year
The man convicted for raping and killing young Taliyah Thompson in Discovery Bay, St. Ann, last year, has been slapped with various sentences ranging from 15 years to life imprisonment.
27-year old Troy Ellis was sentenced in the St. Ann circuit court today by judge Andrea Collins.
The body of 9 year old Taliyah Thompson was found at Ellis’ home in Discovery Bay, last September.
It’s reported that Ellis had lured the child to the house, where he sexually assaulted her before stabbing her several times.
Ellis attempted to commit suicide after the incident and was hospitalized under police guard.
He escaped, and following a man hunt, was recaptured.
In court, Ellis pleaded guilty to several charges.
Because Ellis was facing multiple charges, he was given varied sentences on each count.
Ellis was sentenced to 30 years imprisonment for murder, to serve 24 years before being eligible for parole.
He was sentenced to 22 years for rape, to serve 18 years before being eligible for parole.
For the grievous sexual assault charge, he was sentenced to 19 years imprisonment, to serve 15 years before being eligible for parole.
For firearm possession, he was sentenced to 15 years imprisonment, to serve 12 years before being eligible for parole, and for possession of ammunition, he got life imprisonment, to serve 15 years before being eligible for parole.
Ellis had already been sentenced to 6 months imprisonment for escaping police custody, while at the St. Ann’s Bay Hospital.
In her remarks, Judge Collins pointed out that the circumstances of the crime committed factored into the sentences handed down and that the sentences are intended to send a message to perpetrators of similar offenses.
