Tributes pour in for Garnett Silk
Today marks 30 years since the tragic passing of Reggae icon Garnett Silk, and industry figures such as Tony Rebel and producer Jazzwad are among those paying tribute to the legendary singer.
Tony Rebel took to Instagram, writing: “Today we remember Garnett Silk. That tragic moment when he transitioned. Our heart is always occupied with wonderful moments that we shared. Rest in power, my brethren.”
Producer Jazzwad also shared a heartfelt post, recounting memories of creating beats and music with Garnett Silk. He described the late artiste as an extraordinary singer and performer who remains beloved worldwide.
Garnett Silk’s promising career was cut short on December 9, 1994, at just 28 years old, when a propane cylinder exploded at his mother’s home in Manchester. Tragically, his mother also perished in the blaze.
Silk’s legacy lives on through timeless hits such as Zion In A Vision, It’s Growing, Mama Africa, Lion Heart, Love Is The Answer, Kingly Character, and With Your Mercy.
On December 14, his life and work will be celebrated at Zion In A Vision, an event organized by his younger brother, Paul “Lij Amlak” Cassanova, at Silk Kulcha Yaad in Hatfield district, where the singer was born.
