Tributes continue to pour in for former mayor of Port Maria, Walter Brady who passed away on Thursday.

He was 88 years old.

Mr. Brady was the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP’s) Councillor for the Hamstead Division and began his service as mayor in 1981.

He also served as a teacher, life insurance underwriter and farmer.

Speaking with IRIE FM News last evening, Port Maria’s mayor, Fitzroy Wilson expressed deep sadness at Mr. Brady’s passing.

He recounted how a meeting at the Municipal Corporation yesterday was filled with discussions honouring the former mayor.

Meanwhile, Local Government Minister Desmond Mackenzie described Mr. Brady as the consummate figure of authority and dignity, who commanded the respect of many people.

In a statement, Mr. McKenzie noted that Mr. Brady’s influence extended beyond the Hampstead Division.

He remembered him as a titan of political life in St. Mary.

Mr. McKenzie said Mr. Brady’s knowledge and willingness to mentor, provided a consistent sense of calm after one of the most intense political periods in Jamaica’s history.

The Minister hailed Mr. Brady as one of the best examples of a councillor, adding that he is proud to call him a great servant of local government.
