Transport Minister Daryl Vaz has stated that the rural school buses are ready to be rolled out next week.

He also suggested that the Opposition People’s National Party’s decision to overhaul the rural school bus system if it forms the next Government, will cost it the September 3 general election.

During the recent political debate on social issues, the PNP’s Damion Crawford said if the party forms the next Government, the rural school bus system will not continue in its current form.

The PNP has raised concerns about the safety of the buses and has put forward its proposal for transporting students in rural Jamaica.

Reacting to this, Mr. Vaz explained that the 110 buses are ready to roll out for the upcoming school year, noting that the buses have been retrofitted.

Citing road fatalities among children in rural parishes, Mr. Vaz said children cannot continue to travel on transportation that is not safe.
