Transport Authority, Jamaica Constabulary Force to seize PPVs if drivers caught overcharging citizens
Transport Minister Daryl Vaz has directed members of the Transport Authority and the Jamaica Constabulary Force to seize the vehicles of Public Passenger Operators who try to overcharge citizens.
Mr. Vaz’s directive comes amidst reports that operators who ply routes not severely impacted by Hurricane Melissa have increased their fares by 50 or 100 per cent.
The Minister warned that there will be zero tolerance for operators seeking to take advantage of citizens, especially in the aftermath of the hurricane.
Meanwhile, Mr. Vaz is appealing to motorists to reduce their speeds when driving through the toll roads, especially at the collection booths.
