Trade unionist/Opposition Senator tables private members’ motion that seeks to end abuse of fixed-term employment contracts

Trade unionist and Opposition Senator, Lambert Brown has tabled a private members motion in the Senate that seeks to end the abuse of fixed-term contracts of employment by some companies.

Speaking in the Senate yesterday, Mr. Brown noted that the recent industrial action taken by hundreds of hotel workers, once again brings to light, the oppressive nature of fixed-term contracts.

He said the issue of contract abuse exists in several sectors, not only tourism.

Senator Brown said action must be taken to address the contract issue because it is undermining good industrial relations.
