Tourism Minister Edmund Bartlett and other ministry officials are locked in a meeting with the management and staff of the Royalton Negril hotel in Westmoreland.

The meeting comes after scores of workers staged a protest at the hotel on Monday.

Workers from all departments participated in the strike, resulting in guests being without basic amenities for hours.

The workers resumed duties yesterday, following a meeting with management.

Speaking with Irie FM News this morning, Senior Strategist in the Tourism Ministry Delano Seiveright while highlighting the significance of the meeting, said Senior Vice President of Royalton Daniel Lozano flew in for this morning’s talks.

Labour Minister Pearnel Charles Jr. who assured that measures will be implemented to address the concerns of the workers, is reportedly meeting with stakeholders at Royalton Blue Waters in Falmouth, Trelawny.

Meantime, the Opposition People’s National Party, PNP says there is a need for stronger representation and unionization within the hotel industry.

The comment from Spokesperson on Labour, Wavell Hinds follows a protest by approximately 200 workers of the Royalton Negril hotel in Westmoreland on Monday.

The workers called for better working conditions and wages.

They have returned to work.

In a statement, Mr. Hinds noted that hospitality workers are the backbone of Jamaica’s tourism industry and as such deserve better treatment and representation.
