Tourism ministry official calls for good sense to prevail, as efforts continue to resolve tourism workers’ concerns
Those were the demands of several workers of the Excellence Oyster Bay Hotel in Trelawny, as they protested at the gate of the resort this morning.
The group is the latest of four which took industrial action recently, to register their frustration over poor working conditions and low wages.
Senior Advisor and Strategist in the Tourism Ministry, Delano Seiveright, told IRIE FM News that discussions aimed at resolving the issues began at the weekend.
However some workers still decided to protest today.
He said that despite the protest, the resort was fully functional.
Tourism Minister Edmund Bartlett held talks with several stakeholders regarding the issues affecting workers.
Mr. Seiveright said it is important that good sense prevails.
Last week, workers at the Iberostar Hotel and the Secrets and Breathless Resorts in Montego Bay, St. James staged protests.
Workers at the Royalton Hotel in Negril staged a similar demonstration last month, highlighting wage concerns among other issues.
