Tourism continues to rebound post Hurricane Beryl

Jamaica’s tourism sector continues to rebound post Hurricane Beryl, welcoming over a hundred thousand stop over visitors since the passage of the storm.

Portfolio Minister Ed Bartlett says the rapid rebound is a testament to Jamaica’s well-honed disaster preparedness plans and the unwavering spirit of its tourism stakeholders.

Last week, at the Christmas in July trade show, Tourism Minister Ed Bartlett noted that within 7 days after the hurricane, the island had welcomed 55,000 visitors.

While closing the Sectoral Debate in Parliament yesterday, Bartlett gave an update on the figure; within 11 days after the storm, Jamaica had welcomed 105 visitors.

Mr. Bartlett said this demonstrates the resilience of the sector.

The Tourism Minister went on to highlight that the resilience extends beyond stopover arrivals as cruise tourism has also experienced a significant resurgence, with a 16% increase year on year.
