Top gang member among three charged in St. Andrew South police division

An alleged top tier member of the ’33 Lane Gang’ is among 3 persons arrested and charged by the St. Andrew South police in relation to crimes committed in the division.

He is Andrew Watson, otherwise called ‘Luther’, a 38-year-old farmer of Waltham Park Road in Kingston.

Two other persons have been charged for serious offences, including murder, conspiracy to murder, possession of prohibited weapons and abstracting electricity.

They are, Jason Munroe, otherwise called ‘Moonie’, a 26-year-old businessman of Kingsley Avenue and Lemon Lane in Kingston, and, 27-year-old tattoo artist, Horraine Byfield of Silverdene Drive, Kingston.

As it concerns Watson, he is facing a murder charged in relation to the killing of 21-year-old Johnathan Martin, otherwise called ‘JJ’, a labourer of Waltham Park Road, Kingston.

Reports are that on Friday, January 10, Watson was among some men who confronted Martin at his residence and demanded that he leave the area.

The men then hit Martin repeatedly with boards before chasing him along Brotherton Avenue, where he was shot and killed.

The perpetrators then escaped on motorcycles.

The police were summoned and Martin was seen lying on the roadway with gunshot wounds to his head and leg.

Martin was transported to the hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

Following investigations, Watson was arrested, interviewed in the presence of his lawyer and formally charged yesterday.

The other accused Munroe, is charged with Murder, Wounding With Intent and multiple firearm-related offences.

These charges stem from the killing of 27-year-old Warren Grant, otherwise called ‘Zeeks’, of Hill Avenue in Kingston.

Reports are that on Tuesday, February 25, Grant was sitting along Cinnamon Crescent in Kingston, when Munroe approached, pulled handgun, then opened fire on Grant.

Grant attempted to escape but was chased and shot multiple times, causing him to collapse.

Another man, who was nearby, observed what happened and threw a stone at Munroe.

In response, Munroe opened fire on the man, hitting him in the abdomen.

Munroe then escaped in a waiting motor vehicle.

The wounded Grant was transported to the Kingston Public Hospital (KPH), where he was initially admitted, but later succumbed.

The man who tried to help Grant was admitted in stable condition.

Munroe was later arrested, interviewed in the presence of his lawyer and formally charged yesterday.

And, finally, Byfield has been charged with abstracting electricity following a special operation conducted by the police and the Jamaica Public Service Company Limited (JPSco) yesterday, at about 9:45 a.m.

During the operation, an illegal electricity connection was detected at Byfield’s premises.

Upon further checks, Byfield indicated that he is the owner of the property and was subsequently charged.

The St. Andrew South police division said it remains resolute in its mission to remove violent offenders and bring criminals to justice.
