The opening week fixture between Tivoli Gardens and Molynes United in the Wray and Nephew Jamaica Premier League has been postponed owing to the death of Tivoli Gardens defender Delano Daley.

Daley who recently joined TGFC from Waterhouse, died early Saturday morning after the vehicle he was in veered right off the roadway onto a private property, crashing into a wall and a wooden utility pole in the vicinity of 26 Eastwood Park Plaza,.

The vehicle was then engulfed in flames resulting in the five occupants sustaining injuries.

Three people, including Daley, were pronounced dead at hospital.

Professional Football Jamaica Limited (PFJL) in a statement said “Due to the unfortunate death of Tivoli Gardens FC Delano Daley, tomorrow’s opening day fixture between TGFC & Molynes United FC has been postponed.

The entire PFJL Fraternity thoughts are prayers are with those who are deeply affected.”

Tivoli Gardens and Molynes United had been scheduled to meet on Sunday in the opening game of a double-header at the Tony Spalding Sports Complex that also includes the fixture between Arnett Gardens and Dunbeholden.

In the other games on Sunday, last season’s beaten finalists Mount Pleasant face home team Portmore United at Ferdie Neita Park.

Vere Phoenix United go up against former champions Montego Bay United at the Wembley Centre of Excellence.

The action on match day one concludes on Monday with Harbour View facing newly promoted Chapelton Maroons and Waterhouse opposing another newly promoted team Racing United at the Anthony Spalding Sports Complex.

Defending champions Cavalier will be idle as they prepare for their CONCACAF Caribbean Cup third round fixture against Haitian team Real Hope at the National Stadium on Tuesday.
