Title holders Glenmuir begin ISSA Champions Cup title defense against Kingston College
The blockbuster clash between title holders Glenmuir and former two time winners Kingston College is the marquee encounter in the opening round of the ISSA Champions Cup.
The mouth-watering contest was set in stone at Tuesday’s draw for the annual tournament which features the four semifinalists in the Manning and DaCosta Cup competitions facing off in an urban versus rural area showdown in the first round.
It’s a repeat of the 2023 semifinal where Glenmuir beat Kingston College 5-3 on penalties, after they played out a 1-1 stalemate in regulation time before going on to defeat Clarendon College 3-2 in the final to win their maiden title.
The victorious team will advance to the last four where they will face the winner of the clash between 2014 and 2022 winners Jamaica College and McGrath High, who are making their second Champions Cup appearance.
Over on the other side of the bracket Garvey Maceo, in their sixth appearance, have been drawn to face Hydel, the beaten 2023 Manning Cup finalists who are making their fourth appearance overall.
The bracket is filled out by Ocho Rios High, in their second appearance and first since 2016, going up against debutantes St. Catherine High.
The first round of the ISSA Champions Cup kicks off on November 22 and on November 23, 2024.
All four matches will be played at the Montego Bay Sports Complex in Catherine Hall.
