Three children, aged 2 to 7 years, perished in a house fire early this morning in Walkerswood, St. Ann. 

The children’s grandmother and a 5-year-old child survived the blaze.

Reports indicate that the fire occurred at about 2:24 A.M.

Commissioner of the Jamaica Fire Brigade (JFB), Stewart Beckford, says the remains of the three children were discovered during cooling down operations. 

He said units from both Ocho Rios and St. Ann’s Bay responded.

Youth Minister Dr. Dana Morris Dixon has assured that her ministry is prepared to offer support to the family during this difficult time.

Meanwhile, the Child Protection and Family Services Agency (CPFSA) has referred the mother and sibling of the children who died in the fire, for trauma counselling.

The deaths of the three children comes on the heels of another tragic incident on Wednesday, in which a five-year-old girl perished in a house fire in Whitehall, Kingston, while under the care of an elderly relative.

CPFSA’s Chief Executive Officer, Laurette Adams-Thomas, urged parents and guardians to prioritize child safety and adopt fire prevention measures at home.

Additionally, Education Minister Dr. Dana Morris Dixon said a team from her ministry will visit the school tomorrow to offer support to those affected.
