Threats of industrial action by contracted drivers and mechanics at the Jamaica Fire Brigade (JFB) have been averted.
This as the JFB and the Jamaica Civil Service association (JCSA), which represents the workers have reached an agreement, that the newly adjusted salaries will be paid on Friday August 29.
On Wednesday, the JCSA, said it was informed that the drivers and mechanics will not be paid the new salaries which took effect in July, on Monday August 25.
The union had said the JFB’s failure to make the payments would result in, affected workers withdrawing their service.
Last evening, Commissioner at the JFB Stewart Beckford told IRIE FM News that a settlement was reached.
This was confirmed by JCSA’s Acting President Kelvin Thomas.
Mr. Thomas, said the union and the Fire Brigade came to a temporary understanding.
