The West Indies suffers 23 run loss to Afghanistan in warm up match before World Cup
The West Indies cricketers suffered a 23 run loss to Afghanistan today in their lone warm up match ahead of their opening game on Saturday at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in India.
Despite a quickfire half century from Matthew Forde the West Indies folded for 159 chasing 183 for victory.
Forde hit 4 fours and 4 sixes on his way to 52 not out while putting on 77 in an unbroken 8th wicket partnership with Jason Holder who hit 25 not out, but the Windies was restricted to 159 for 7.
The West Indies never recovered from a top order collapse which saw them reduced to 54 for 5, before holder and forde tried to rescue the innings at 82 for 7
Jamaicans Rovman Powell 32 and Brandon King 11 were the only other batters to get to double figures.
Earlier, Afghanistan asked to bat first posted 182 for 6, Ibrahim Zadran who retired hurt on 51 getting most runs
Rahmanullah Gurbaz 43 from 28 balls, Azmatullah Omarzai who retired out on 35 and Darwish rasooli who retired out as well on 27 were the other main contributors with the bat for Afghamistan Gudakesh Motie and Roston Chase took a wicket each bowling for the West Indies.
The West Indies team will journey to Kolkata on Thursday for the opening match against Scotland at Eden Gardens on Saturday.
