The number of people fatally shot by members of the security forces since the start of the year is approaching the 100 mark.

According to data published on the Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) website, there have been 98 police fatal shootings since January 1.

One of the most recent incidents occurred in Brooke Valley, Kingston 20 on Wednesday night.

The identity of the deceased has not yet been released.

Reports indicate that around 11:08 P.M., officers were conducting an operation in the area when they were allegedly confronted by a man. He was shot and wounded during the encounter, and later succumbed to his injuries.

Police say a Taurus pistol, along with an affixed magazine containing five 9 millimeter rounds was seized at the scene.

INDECOM is investigating the matter.
