The Jamaica Confederation of Trade Unions saddened at passing of veteran trade unionist Keith Comrie

The Jamaica Confederation of Trade Unions (JCTU) has expressed deep sadness at the passing of veteran trade unionist, Keith Comrie.

Mr. Comrie, who was the General Secretary of the Union of Schools, Agricultural and Allied Workers died yesterday.

He was also a former Assistant General Secretary for the JCTU for many years.

In a statement last evening, the JCTU described Mr. Comrie as a steadfast and passionate advocate for workers’ rights, a trailblazer in the labour movement and a champion of social justice.

The JCTU said Mr. Comrie’s unwavering commitment to improving the lives of workers across Jamaica, and his determination to ensure equity and fairness have left an indelible mark on the labour movement, trade union fraternity and the nation.

The JCTU also noted that Mr. Comrie was not just a union leader but a mentor, a friend, and a guiding light to many. His voice resonated far and wide, inspiring solidarity and collective action.

The JCTU said Mr. Comrie’s legacy will continue to shape the labour movement for generations to come.
