The Education Ministry will undertake an anti-bullying campaign in collaboration with UNICEF

The Education Ministry will be undertaking an anti-bullying campaign, in collaboration with the United Nations Children’s Fund, UNICEF.

Education Minister Dr. Dana Morris-Dixon gave the update, while responding to questions at yesterday’s post cabinet press briefing.

It comes in the wake of recent incidents of bullying at some schools.

The Minister said discussions with UNICEF on the campaign had started before the September 3 General Election, due to observations of bullying at some of the island’s schools.

Dr. Morris-Dixon added that last week, she met with representatives from the Child Protection and Family Services Agency (CPFSA) to discuss bullying in schools.

She said the Ministry is looking to use therapeutic centres for children who are exhibiting signs of bullying as one method of intervention.

She further noted that the issue of mental health has been integrated into the school curriculum.
