The island’s teachers  have been called on to wear black today and tomorrow as a sign of solidarity, as the Jamaica Teachers Association JTA presses for outstanding claims to be addressed by the finance ministry.

The JTA and the ministry are set to meet tomorrow, even as there is  growing unrest among teachers.

The meeting scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m., is  to discuss outstanding elements of the JTA’s list of claims, including salary-related matters such as the graduate allowance.

JTA President, Mark Malabver says the association’s 20,000 teachers have been asked to wear black over the two days .

He is urging members to exercise a little more patience and await the outcome of the talks.

Mr. Malabver added that if there is no meaningful progress in addressing the concerns, the membership will determine the next course of action.
