Taxi Operators express concern about long awaited fare increase ahead of government announcement about budget

Ahead of the expected announcement today by the government about the budget, and the impact of hurricane Melissa, Taxi Operators have expressed concern about their long awaited fare increase.

The matter was raised last evening during the virtual meeting of the Transport Operators Development Sustainable Services, TODSS.

The operators said they are expecting the Finance Minister to announce taxes to make up the revenue gap created in the aftermath of the category 5 storm.

TODSS President Egeton Newman noted that while operators are yet to get their fare increase, revenue to the government, by way of fees charged by the Transport Authority, have increased.

He called on the Transport Minister to review how fare increases are granted, that is, for the mechanism to be managed by the Office of Utilities Regulation, OUR.
